Division: Missions

PURPOSE:

SCSC (i.e., Summer Christian Service Corps) is a ministry of the Women’s Board of the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference that places young adult students in Christian service work for the summer. Students apply for service, and SDB churches apply for student workers. SCSC projects, when assigned, are in service 3-5 weeks each summer in June/July, depending on the General Conference timing.

DESCRIPTION:

SCSC Team Leaders include the Pastor and all Project Director(s) for any given year’s project. The Project Director should be someone of outstanding character, a member in good standing, and at least 25 years old as of the project itself. He/she must also have a work/schedule flexible enough to handle being away a substantial portion of the summer. A Project Director may also request a “Co-PD” … someone who should also be someone of outstanding character and a member in good standing … to assist the Project Director. At such times they work as a team, but final responsibility for decisions made during the project rests with the Project Director.

The Pastor, Division Director and Project Director(s) are the official Team Leaders for the summer and work together to plan out their SCSC ministry calendar with input from the balance of the church membership. Our SCSC Team itself consists of the Team Leaders along with the students assigned by the Women’s Board.

See the attached Job Description provided by the Women’s Board for specifics, but generally the SCSC Team Leaders are responsible for the students on their team and act as liaison between the team and the community or rest of the church. Any and all problems, concerns or suggestions must go through the Team Leaders.

An undetermined number of hours working with other Team Leaders in advance planning
1 week before Project for training (currently held in New York)
3-5 weeks during the Project
